2019 Budget Public Hearing and Tax Levy Set for Dec. 3

The City Council will be holding a Public Hearing on the 2019 Budget at the Dec. 3 City Council Meeting. The public is invited to speak and ask questions during the Public Hearing. The City Council will also consider the city’s final 2019 property tax levy.

On September 17, 2018, the City Council adopted a preliminary tax levy of $12,880,775, which is an increase of $803,217 (6.65%) over 2018. For over 50% of the homes in Prior Lake, this will result in a tax increase of about 3.4% or less. This equates to an annual increase of $37 for an average valued home of $338,100 for the city portion of property taxes.

The 2019 proposed Budget includes an addition of a full-time city clerk (starting mid-year) and one full-time police officer.

A Public Hearing for the proposed 2019 Fee Schedule will also be held at the Dec. 3 City Council Meeting. The Fee Schedule determines various rates the city charges for services, such as utility rates and development fees. The changes to the 2019 Fee Schedule have been color coded with explanations for easier review.
